Wesley Medical Center Reaches Higher Level of Technology With New PET/CT
Patients and physicians at Wesley Medical Center now have the latest technology available in the fight against cancer. Wesley has upgraded its imaging services with the acquisition of PET/CT.
PET/CT integrates diagnostic PET and CT technologies into a single device, making it possible for doctors to collect both anatomical and biological information during a single examination. Alone, each test has its limitations; therefore, combining the two provides the most complete information on cancer location and metabolic activity. The information obtained by PET/CT allows for accurate tumor detection and localization for a variety of cancers, including melanoma, lymphoma, lung, colorectal, head and neck, esophageal and ovarian cancers. This technology also provides value in evaluating response to therapy after the initial diagnosis is made.
The use of PET/CT will aid in more precise cancer detection and ultimately, a greater chance of recovery with an improved quality of life for the patient. With the addition of PET/CT at Wesley Medical Center, physicians will better be able to diagnose and detect recurrences earlier, accurately guide biopsies, determine with greater accuracy which stage the cancer is in, target radiation therapy and monitor response to treatment.
